“Kickstarting Your Career”  Seminar by Micky GANGWANI (Web Summit)

The HKBU School of Business’ Entrepreneurship and Innovation Centre (EIC) recently hosted Mr. Micky GANGWANI, Head of Partnerships at Web Summit (one of the world’s largest tech conferences) as part of its “Kickstarting Your Career” series. The event drew over 160 business students, who gained insights into the evolving landscape of tech partnerships, adaptability in entrepreneurship, and data-driven decision-making.

Mr. GANGWANI shared his journey at Web Summit, highlighting how an entrepreneurial mindset, adaptability, and data analytics propelled his career alongside the company’s rapid growth. He emphasised that success in the tech industry requires proactive problem-solving and treating setbacks as learning opportunities — a lesson highly relevant to students navigating today’s fast-changing business environment.

A major focus of the talk was on how to cultivate meaningful business relationships. Mr. GANGWANI explained how Web Summit moves beyond traditional sponsorships by customising experiences, such as curated networking events, targeted introductions, and tailored content sessions, designed to connect partners with their target audience.

With the rise of AI and hybrid events, Mr. GANGWANI stressed the importance of leveraging data to stay ahead. He also predicted a growing shift toward virtual and hybrid events, where adaptability and tech integration will be critical.
