The Entrepreneurship Innovation Centre (EIC) of the HKBU School of Business hosted an inspiring seminar featuring Ms. Kit LAU, Founder of Village Bakery on 30th September 2024. With 170 business students in attendance, Ms. LAU shared her remarkable journey from personal assistant to successful entrepreneur, discovering her passion for baking along the way.
Ms. LAU’s customer strategy is centred on creating a welcoming environment and ensuring satisfaction through personalised service. A standout initiative is the community table in her bakery, where people can sit together and chat. With the aim of boost sales while fostering community connections, she invites a storyteller weekly, creating delightful afternoons for kids and attracting their parents. Her menu, designed based on community needs, attracts regular customers and highlights the role of empathy in her business success.
Highlighting the essence of entrepreneurship, Ms. LAU stressed the importance of curiosity and self-awareness. She encouraged students to step out of their comfort zones, recognise their strengths, and actively seek improvement through questioning. “An entrepreneur needs empathy, curiosity, and self-understanding; observe your own strengths,” she advised. “Be proactive in asking questions and willing to improve, so you can gain a comprehensive understanding of your work.”
Dr. Marta DOWEJKO, Director of the EIC, moderated the seminar. She praised Ms. LAU’s impactful insights and contributions to the business community, especially for aspiring entrepreneurs.
